Driverless Underground in Nuremberg

Bayka Delivers Special Cables for RUBIN

RUBIN is the name of the project about the driverless control technology of the underground lines U2 and U3 in Nuremberg. The abbreviation stands for the realization of an automated underground in Nuremberg (short RUBIN). The project is being supervised by Siemens Mobility in cooperation with the transport corporation Nuremberg (VAG) and was initiated in 2002.

The first driverless underground in Germany was put into operation on the 14th June 2008 on line U3; the line U2 followed on the 2nd January 2010. A unique challenge: During the introductory phase it was worldwide for the first time that both, fully automated and also conventional trains were employed together on one road section. Therefore, safety has been the top priority.

We as Bayka are proud to be part of this unique pilot project with a worldwide innovation: Our high-quality signalling cable “BayRail® nonfire B2ca”. Classified as a construction product of Euroclass B2ca, they are especially suitable for underground infrastructure. Due to UV, weather, ozone and oil resistance as well as due the possibility to lay the cable directly into the earth, they are practically universally usable.
